First action by the House under new Speaker Johnson.
The House of Representatives passed a resolution stating the U.S. “stands with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists.” The resolution also affirms Israel’s right to self-defense and calls for a halt to the violence, among other provisions.
Speaker Mike Johnson said, “The country mandates strong leadership of this body and we must not waver. We’re overdue in getting that done.”
The ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Gregory Meeks of New York, said, “There is no daylight between us when it comes to us standing with our friend, our ally, the state of Israel.”
Nine members of the minority party and one from the majority voted against the resolution.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Speaker Johnson as he takes up the legislative agenda and brings acts and resolutions to the House floor.
- For members of the House to seek the Lord as they prepare for votes on legislation.
- For the peace of Jerusalem and discernment for Israeli leaders.
